Introduction
The Tooltip widget lets you display a tooltip on one or more elements.
A tooltip may be useful in many different ways. But as soon as you find friction points, you can start improving by adding a simple tooltip. Very often, it will quickly relieve users from a painful experience or a clueless interface.
Layout tab
- Select the element on which you want to trigger and display a tooltip.
- Select the position on which side the tooltip is displayed on: left, right, top, bottom. Default is top.
- Select the layout that suits you most depending on the design of your web app or the quantity of text you have to provide in your tooltip: "Simple" or "Rich".
Content tab
- Type a Title in the "Title" textarea.
- If you've selected the "Title & Text" layout in the layout tab, then you can also add a text in the "Text" textarea.
Style tab
- The Text color will be applied to both Title and Copy. We advise you to pick a light color.
- The Background color is black by default. We advise you to pick the most contrasted background based on your text color. If most of your website has a light background, use a dark color for your tooltip backgrounds. A tooltip has to be clear and very readable.
- Border color, thickness & radius will help adapt to your website style and make them seamless.
- Drop shadow & drop shadow blur radius - You can decide to have a drop shadow and how opaque it will be.
Conditions tab
You can decide if you want to display your tooltip at click or at hover (hover does not work on touch devices).
You can decide to display the tooltip by default at pageload. We do not recommend to do that to several tooltips. It can quickly become overwhelming and stressful for your visitors.
You can decide if the tooltip will be displayed only once per page or or every single time the trigger is triggered.
You can use the Tooltip widget as a pseudo-onboarder and add several in one page. In that case, we would recommend you to trigger each one only once per page. So that, once the visitor finished clicking in the different "new" areas, he can start really using the website without making the tooltips pop again.
On the other hand, if you use tooltips as legends for images, links or else, then we would recommend you to not trigger only once per page.
